A confidential utility consulting and design firm is seeking a Distribution Designer or Distribution Design Engineer to develop accurate, construction-ready plans for underground and overhead electric distribution projects across South Central Pennsylvania. This full-time role is remote or hybrid, with regular field visits in the greater Harrisburg region and collaboration with clients and internal project teams.

TravelRemote work with regular field visits throughout South Central Pennsylvania. Field mileage is reimbursed at the IRS standard mileage rate. One in-office meeting is typically required each month and may be negotiable based on experience and assigned territory.

What you will do
- Design underground and overhead electric distribution systems for utility projects.
- Prepare detailed construction plans for pole replacements, service upgrades, and related distribution work.
- Conduct regular field visits throughout the Harrisburg, Carlisle, York, and Hershey area to collect and verify site information.
- Use distribution-design and drafting software to produce accurate, efficient project deliverables.
- Coordinate with clients and internal teams to clarify scope, resolve design issues, and support successful project delivery.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable utility requirements, engineering principles, and construction standards.
- Manage assigned work independently in a remote environment while meeting quality and schedule expectations.
How you will make an impact
- Deliver practical, field-ready designs that support safe and reliable electric distribution improvements.
- Reduce construction delays and rework by producing accurate plans grounded in verified field conditions.
- Help clients complete pole replacement, service upgrade, and distribution expansion projects efficiently.
- Strengthen coordination between field conditions, engineering requirements, and construction execution.
Required qualifications
- Residence within practical travel distance of Harrisburg, Carlisle, York, or Hershey in South Central Pennsylvania.
- Ability to complete regular onsite field visits throughout the greater Harrisburg region.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication and the ability to collaborate with clients and project teams.
- Ability to organize work, manage priorities, and perform independently in a remote work environment.
- Working knowledge of construction management or engineering principles relevant to utility distribution design.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience designing underground and overhead electric distribution systems.
- Experience with pole replacements, service upgrades, and utility construction plans.
- Proficiency with one or more of the following: Pole Foreman, AutoCAD, MicroStation, ArcFM, or EFD.
- Previous experience in the electric utility industry.
- Associate's degree in engineering technology, drafting, design, or a related field.
Physical requirements
- Ability to travel to utility field locations and move safely through active outdoor work areas.
- Ability to work at a computer for extended periods while preparing and reviewing design documents.
Work environment
- Primarily remote office work with regular outdoor field visits in varying weather and site conditions.
- Periodic in-office collaboration, typically once per month unless an alternate arrangement is approved.
